All Walks of Life set to Host Annual My Block Youth Film Festival

The program was awarded a $1500 grant from the Kinder Morgan Foundation

SAVANNAH, Ga. – All Walks of Life, Inc. (AWOL) will host its annual My Block Youth Film Festival to showcase student work created in the program on July 21, 2013 at 7:00pm at the Sentient Bean Coffee shop located at 13 East Park Ave. The event will feature screenings of issue based short films and PSA’s created by local youth.

AWOL is Savannah’s first and only arts and technology program for youth at-risk living in Chatham County. This mission of the organization is to promote and provide self-awareness through the use of Poetry, Hip-Hop and Life. This mission is met by providing youth with arts and technology programs based in theatre and performing arts, sound design and music engineering and film and photography.

The film and video production class, titled “My Block”, is a spring-summer-long program that provides students with an introduction to the various aspects of film production and photography, including camera operation, editing, script-writing, direction and basic engineering for lighting and sound. Working as a team, students are engaged in pre-production planning, scripting and storyboarding, as well as production and direction of music videos and short films, with possible advancement to producing and editing segments for AWOL’s weekly television show, The Chop Shop. In the post-production stage, students gain first-hand experience using industry standard tools and technology, including PhotoShop, Avid Express, Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects and ProTools. The class is project-based, with students taking turns working in different roles – such as camera operator or lighting technician – while working to complete music videos or issue-based short films.

All Walks of Life (AWOL) is also proud to announce its partnership with the Kinder Morgan Foundation. The Kinder Morgan Foundation has already made a $1500 contribution in support of AWOL’s arts and technology programs.

“Kinder Morgan is pleased to partner with All Walks of Life as they continue to provide important development programs for area youth. We support communities where we operate, and we look forward to fostering mutually beneficial relationships with our Savannah and Chatham County stakeholders today, to shape a better tomorrow,” said Ryan McCreery, Manager of Public Affairs for Kinder Morgan.

The Kinder Morgan Foundation believes that today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, and has a mission to provide them with opportunities to learn and grow. The goal of the Kinder Morgan Foundation is to help today’s science, math and music students become the engineers, educators and musicians who will support our diverse communities for many years to come. To accomplish this goal, the organization funds programs that promote the academic and artistic interests of young people in the many cities and towns across North America where Kinder Morgan operates.
